
Location
As a location, the Corvin Castle is located in Transylvania, in the center of Hunedoara, and the access to the castle is from Sântuhalm, towards the town hall of Hunedoara, being the main landmark. Continue along Constantin Bursan Street following the grandeur of the castle and then go along Castle Street and Curtea Corvinilor Street.

With a history of more than 600 years, Corvin Castle is an important historical tourist destination in Transylvania, being ranked in the top 10 fairytale destinations in Europe.
When we arrived near the castle we were speechless at the grandeur of the place. We have been transported to a time long gone; everything appeared to us as if in a fairy tale, taking us back to the time of the Hunyad and Corvinid rule, a period from which all the legends and stories that have grown from year to year began.
Hunedoara’s main tourist attraction attracts hundreds of thousands of Romanian and foreign tourists every year, as well as various film productions from all over the world.

Movies in the castle
Corvin Castle plays an important role in the history of international cinema as dozens of commercials, documentaries and famous films such as “Ghost Rider 2”, “Dragonheart 4”, “The Nun”, “Michael the Brave”, “Singh is Bling” etc. have been filmed there. The latest filming is for “Nosferatu”, a Romanian-English film production.
The castle of the Hunyads in Hunedoara has gone through several stages of restoration over the years, and the stone fortification has been dated by most researchers to the 14th century.
After 1440, (Ioan) Iancu de Hunedoara initiates the transformation of Hunedoara’s fortress into a castle.
The history of Corvin Castle spans 6 centuries and represents a living legend of Transylvania, with a special medieval charge that we would not be able to relate in any words.
Corvinilor Castle, Hunedoara is a representative symbol of the Medieval era.
The castle of the Hunyadi is built on the rocks, the only access to it being via the wooden bridge over the Zlaști river. As you walk across this bridge, you are filled with a historical, medieval air shrouded in mystery and stories that you can read and hear at every turn.
The castle of Hunedoara is a strategic monument full of towers, towers and a keep where several architectural styles combine, the most representative being the Gothic one, the castle of the Hunyad is a representative symbol of the Gothic style in Romania.

We were absorbed by the beauty and history of the castle of Hunedoara, but we were not able to absorb all the historical information that was offered to us, so when we got home we started to reconnect to the historical culture that the Romanian people inherited. That’s how I discovered the official website and Facebook page “Corvin Castle Museum”, where the castle representatives are very active and present the history, events and current discoveries of this place frequently.

In 2017 the Corvin Castle has entered an extensive process of restoration and enhancement with the help of European funds. In October 2022 a new funding project was signed attracting an additional €4 million.
